She believed that this would get the politicians' attention and encourage them to intervene to prevent global warming. Swedish media filmed Thunbergs protest, and the message spread. In the weeks that followed many students across the globe took part in Thunberg's #FridaysforFuture movement. Students took Friday off in protest against global warming. Climate activists all over the planet organized this Global Strike for Climate. The event was an enormous accomplishment. 1.6 million people across 125 countries participated.
